Outpatient Treatment FAQs
How does outpatient therapy work?
Outpatient therapy and adolescent partial hospitalization programs, such as the day program at Ascend, provide structured mental health treatment during the day while allowing teens to return home in the evening. This level of care offers individual, group, and family therapy along with medication management and other supportive services. Our outpatient and partial hospitalization program for teens is ideal for teens who need more intensive care than weekly therapy but do not require 24/7 supervision.
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
An adolescent partial hospitalization program (PHP) typically provides more intensive therapy, often involving several hours of treatment each day, five days a week. An intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers slightly less structured care, with fewer hours per week. Ascend blends both approaches, offering comprehensive mental health support while allowing teens to stay connected to their families.
What conditions does the outpatient program at Ascend treat?
Ascend’s outpatient and adolescent partial hospitalization program is designed to address a wide variety of mental health and behavioral concerns in adolescents. We treat anxiety disorders, which often manifest as persistent worry, panic attacks, or social anxiety, affecting a teen’s ability to function in everyday life. We also treat bipolar and depressive disorders, where teens may experience extreme mood swings, periods of intense sadness, or feelings of hopelessness. For teens with neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD and autism, our programs focus on helping them develop coping skills and improve emotional regulation.
What types of therapies are part of Ascend’s outpatient program?
Our outpatient programs use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Experiential Therapies like Art and Music therapy. These approaches help teens build healthier coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills.
