Diagnostic-Specific Adolescent PHP/IOP in Pasadena, Built for Profound Change.

Ascend Healthcare’s new Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) program in Pasadena.

Ascend Healthcare Pasadena delivers adolescent outpatient care through a structured, intentional, and responsive model aligned with how teens actually engage in treatment.

Built on Ascend’s signature diagnostic-specific clinical model, it is delivered through an intentionally integrated outpatient design.

Clients are placed in best-fit tracks, where they receive targeted, diagnosis-specific treatment while engaging in shared, real-world therapeutic experiences that support connection, skill development, and meaningful application.

Clients are placed into one of four tracks based on their primary clinical presentation:

  • Dual Diagnosis (mental health and substance use)
  • Primary Mental Health
  • Eating Disorders
  • Neurodiverse (autism spectrum profiles and executive functioning challenges)

Many teens enter our teen outpatient treatment program in Pasadena as a step-down from residential care…

While many teens enter our PHP and IOP programs as a natural step-down from residential treatment, these programs also serve adolescents transitioning from hospitalization or other intensive levels of care.

PHP and IOP can also act as early intervention options helping prevent the need for residential placement by providing a structured, therapeutic environment for clients living at home.

Diagnosis Specific Care Tracks

Dual Diagnosis Track

Our dual diagnosis track supports adolescents experiencing both mental health and substance use challenges. Treatment integrates evidence-based clinical care with substance use education, relapse prevention, and emotional regulation work. Clients receive targeted support while remaining engaged in a structured, therapeutic environment that promotes accountability and long-term stability.

Clients participate in structured therapeutic groups throughout the day, including psychoeducation, CBT and DBT skills, trauma-informed work, motivational and values-based groups, family dynamics, life skills, and healthy coping strategies to replace substance use.

Primary Mental Health Track

Our primary mental health track is designed for adolescents experiencing mood, anxiety, trauma, and related disorders. Clients participate in evidence-based therapies focused on emotional regulation, cognitive restructuring, and skill development. Treatment is structured to support stabilization, insight, and increased functioning in daily life.

Eating Disorder Track

For our eating disorder track, treatment begins with a supported breakfast and real-time clinical processing, followed by a dedicated lunch and processing block later in the day.

These meals are treated as central clinical interventions, creating space for exposure, support, and integration in a calm, relational environment.

Clients also participate in structured therapeutic groups throughout the day, including work focused on emotional awareness, distress tolerance, body image, and coping skills, allowing for ongoing processing and integration of clinical work.

Neurodiverse Track

Our neurodiverse track is designed to provide structured, skills-based support for adolescents with autism spectrum profiles and/or ADHD, as well as executive functioning challenges.

Rather than relying on open-ended process groups, this track focuses on:

  • Social learning and real-time coaching
  • Executive functioning and organization
  • Cognitive flexibility and problem-solving
  • Clear, structured communication and interaction
